Welcome to Daryl Steven's ~ Salon and Day Spa!

Daryl and Debbie Downey first began working together and became friends in 1980 at a small salon in Aptos. After a few years Daryl left to open the original Daryl Steven’s in Santa Cruz across from Dominican Hospital. Within a couple of years, Debbie joined him there, again as a renter. Here, they both experienced immense success, at one point having more then two dozen busy co-workers.

In 1989, their friendship transcended and they married on the island of St. Thomas and came home to blend their family of four children at their home near UCSC. In 1991 they sold Daryl Steven’s to become independent of business responsibilities for a while.

By 1993, the desire to create another beautiful work place moved them to create a business partnership with three others and open Windward Hair Design in the Live Oak area that is successful to this day.

When their children had finally moved from home they relocated to Scotts Valley, close to where Daryl had been raised and where his parents still reside. Both feeling at home in that community, they began to dream of working there as well. When it was time to renew the lease with Windward they decided it was time to expand both personally as well as professionally and start a full salon and day spa close to home.

Now, after working side by side for almost 30 years, Daryl and Debbie bring their commitment to the industry at Daryl Steven’s Salon and Day Spa from Tuesday to Saturday, 8am until 7pm. With its luxurious, unique and spacious environment, their goal is to bring a more complete experience to its clientele where they can be transformed, renewed and invigorated from head to toe.

Hi, I'm Hannah. I first came to Santa Cruz to attend UCSC, where I majored in Art History. After graduation I attended the Vidal Sassoon Cosmetology Academy in Los Angeles.

I then returned to Santa Cruz and worked in various salons before meeting Daryl and Debbie. I've been working for Daryl Steven's for four years as of 2009.

I specialize in creative cuts, color and color corrections, extentions, and special event hair and make-up.

My name is Seanna. I was born and raised in Santa Cruz. I am a mom to a 8 year old and enjoy being involved in his school activities and all his sports. I have been doing hair since 2005.

I started working at Daryl Stevens in April 2006. I have always had a  fascination with hair and fashion for as long as I can remember. I really enjoy transforming people. It is amazing what a new color and cut can do.

I love changing it up and trying new things. In January 2008 I took over the role of Salon Coordinator as well as doing hair. I look forward for you to come in and see our salon!

My name is Caprice. I have the privilege of working with the most creative, educated, and professional team in the industry. They make my job on the front desk and reception a lot easier. I'll work with you to get you an appointment that works with your schedule.

I've been in this field for over 6 years now. I've lived in Scotts Valley coming up on 20 years with my 2 daughters. I enjoy working in my yard, traveling, hiking, reading and a lot of different sports and activities.

I have seen some amazing haircuts, brilliant color, glowing skin, wonderful nail art, and relaxed clients coming from our salon and spa, and this makes me proud to work here.

I enjoy all of our clients and look forward to your next appointment. Just give me a call and I will be the one to answer the phone.

Hi, I'm Kathy Shortley. I am a licensed esthetician and certified massage practitioner.  My practice is my passion.

As an esthetician I am licensed to perform chemical peels, microdermabrasion, hair removal, acne treatments and a variety of facials and body treatments.

My massages are based on Swedish techniques, and are custom tailored to each client’s special needs.  I have also received additional training in Reiki and Hot Stone Therapy. Education is at the heart of my practice.  I strive to learn something new each day.  I also take continuing education training courses in esthetics and massage as often as they become available.

My ultimate goal is to help my clients achieve a beautiful glow through the nurturing, caring and relaxing benefits of skincare and massage. I am committed to making my love for the healing arts and helping others a lifelong journey.

Hi, my name is Allyson.

I graduated from Wayne's College of Beauty in Santa Cruz and got my license in March of 1999. I have taken extended classes with Redkens five different hair color lines, studing different applications for different results.

I've also attended Nioxin Seminars to learn about the line we carry that deals with hair loss and how to get each client the right products for their individual hair and scalp needs.

Facial waxing and eyebrow shaping is another specialty I have studied with the Satin Waxing method.

Since being part of the Daryl Steven's team, I have trained in up-do's for special events and enjoyed being part of the Coconut Grove Bridal Fair 2009. This was exciting as it required fast, hands on work for each of the runway models.

Our main line of products is Eufora. A line that looks to the future of the hair industry and after each of well beings. I've been happy to receive their cutting classes.

So, if you're planning a wedding, going to prom or just wanting to freshen up your cut and color, Daryl Steven's is the Salon (and Spa) for you!

My name is Lisa Morris and I have been in the cosmetology business for 28 years. I have had a passion for hair since the age of three.

I joined Daryl Steven’s Salon & Day Spa January of 2008 and this last year has been such a wonderful experience. I work with the most loving and professional people in the business and I look forward to many years of personal growth and success.

I take my business very seriously; but at the same time I like to have my clients enjoy themselves in my chair.  Some of my favorite specialties include hair extensions, custom hair coloring and haircuts. Our team work is unsurpassed and quality customer service is our highest priority. Because of this, I attend hair shows and classes often in order to keep up with the newest edgy trends for men and women. I want to give my clients their own individual style and educate them on how to use our professional products to achieve the same great look at home.

Being raised here in Santa Cruz has brought many wonderful things into my life. I met my loving husband in high school and we have been married for almost 25 years. He is still is one of my biggest fans. I also have two daughters; Alexi, who is 21 and Samantha, who is fifteen. They are my biggest fashion critics.

As a family we enjoy traveling. One of the places we go to every year is Mexico to the Rosarito area. We build homes for single mothers and families in need. We also support and work in a local orphanage with some amazing and quite adorable kids.  We have found this to be such a life changing experience.

I am also involved here at home in our community. I participate in fundraisers for our local schools and other organizations, and offer my services when possible. Each day is a gift and I believe that it is important to do what I can to make this a world better place to live.

I look forward to meeting you soon .

Blessings,

I am originally from New Jersey and moved to California in 2001, eventually finding my home in the Santa Cruz mountains.

I specialize in Esalen massage, trigger point release, deep tissue, reiki and have an understanding of chinese medicine and the meridian pathways. I received my massage training at the body therapy center in Palo alto and the Esalen institute in Big Sur.  My Reiki 1 training is from Sedona and my chinese medicine background came from Five Branches in Santa cruz  I also work for a chiropractor and am building my own practice.  I find inspiration from my teacher Ammachi and my yoga practice.
